"The Voice of Mekelle Chamber" Radio Programme has On Air again

 

The Mekelle Chamber of Commerce and Sectorial Association has started airing "The Voice of Mekelle Chamber" again after it was discontinue for two months in the local language, Tigrinya, in Mekelle, on Radio of Dimtsi Woyane Tigray

 

The main objective of “The Voice of Mekelle Chamber” is:

  • Raising public awareness about the laws and regulations guiding business and the role of business associations in a democratic society, through improving access to quality news and information
  • Fostering public debate between the business community and policy makers on business issues and concerns.

In addition to that, other project objectives includes: providing advocacy and lobbying functions of the business community, up-to-date local and international market and trade and investment information to the Business Community of Mekelle. This programme intended to contribute to the share of the business community of Mekelle for its activities.

 

The programme has launched in October, 2007 in Mekelle, and the it has come to practice in close collaboration and financial support and the fund secured from the Center for International Private Enterprises (CIPE), and technical support of Dimtsi Woyane Tigray. The programme is on air every Saturday for 20 minutes in the morning programme, in Radio of Dimtsi Woyane Tigray.

 “7th Round Tigray Mobile ’Millennium for Development' Trade Fair and Exhibition” has been hosted from October 30 – November 12, 2007, in Mekelle and Adigrat towns

 

“Ethio-African Millennium for Development”

 

Organizing and participating in Trade Fairs and Exhibitions is one of the effective mechanisms of trade promotion and business expansion. The MCCSA undertakes and/or facilitates promotional activities, involving trade fairs and the organization of buyer's and seller's missions abroad. The Chamber has now made it a tradition to stage the "Tigray Mobile Trade Fair and Exhibition"; a national standard trade fair organized every year in different towns of the Tigray region. The Chamber's Trade Fair has become a widely attended event attracting more and more exhibitors and visitors each year. Participants of these Trade Fairs have continually reported successes and positive growth in their businesses.

 

It is on the bases of the above-mentioned objective that the Mekelle Chamber of Commerce and Sectorial Association in collaboration with Tigray Development Association has hosted the “7th Round Tigray Mobile 'Millennium for Development' Trade Fair and Exhibition” from October 30 – November 12, 2007, in Mekelle and Adigrat towns of Tigray Regional State, in which they have a huge economic transactions.

 

The Trade Fair and Exhibition will be undertaken with the motto of “Ethio-African Millennium for Development”, and there were more than 94 participants from all over the country, Ethiopia. The Exhibition was visited by more than 75,000 visitors of the two towns.

"Successful Entrepreneurs Day" Award planned to be Hosted in the beginning of February, 2007

 

The Mekelle Chamber of Commerce and Sectorial Association has finalized its preparation to host the "Successful Entrepreneurs Day" Award programme. The major aim and objective of the programme is to publicize those business communities for their economic contribution to the public at large. The categories under consideration are:

  • The Industrial Sector;
  • The Business and Trade Sector;
  • The Transport Sector;
  • The Micro and Small Enterprise Sector;
  • Education Sector (College and above colleges);
  • Hotel and Tourism Sector.

Some of the selection criterion for the successful entrepreneurs are their capital accumulation, employment opportunity, tax payment trend, their social contribution to the public and others. The fund which required to undertake the programme was secured from the Business Management Unit of the Enterprise Ethiopia, and this was the joint programme of The World bank and the Ethiopian Government.

 Advocacy Programmes on different aspects of business

 

“Business Community is the engine of the economy”

 

The main establishment of the Chamber is to forward issues and opinions for the business community that represents. In this regard the Chamber has performed different activities through establishment of different councils and committees, such as – Bank Council, Investment Council, Tax council, Trade and Industry council, Transport council, HIV/AIDS council, Small and Micro Enterprise council, Employee and Social Affairs committee, and soon. Those councils and committees were in the position to solve when ever problems arose for the business community.

Study tour Programme to Dubai "Business Delegation"

 

As one of the Chamber's objective for organizing a study tour programme is to create exposure for the business community to effectively use the resource and benefit from the tour. Beside that the study tour will create an exposure for business network and working as a partnership/joint venture for the future business practice. On this layer, the Mekelle Chamber of Commerce and Sectorial Association has provided many services, study tour programme, to its members to different countries nationally and internationally.

 

Therefore, the Mekelle Chamber of Commerce and Sectorial Association has made a study tour programme and send a Business Delegation to Dubai, United Arab Emirates. The total number of participants of the business delegation of the study tour programme are 17, which represents from different types of businesses from the Mekelle business Community. The Business Delegation has the following main aim, which includes:

  • Sharing of experiences;
  • Getting more exposure for the Micro and Small enterprises for new inventions and creation of job;
  • Adaptation and exercising of new technology;
  • Creating Conducive environment to work with other countries business persons;
  • To make a joint venture;
  • And other business activities.
